Great Minds Think Alike
OVERVIEW
Back in 1992, the founders of OPA join forces with a newly formed company called NIT New & Improved Technologies Inc. to start ground-breaking “Research & Development” on a series of new Kiosk-based embedded products which were originally designed to help further revolutionize the current computer era at the time and help bring technology forward into the 21st century.
In the end, after three long years of back-breaking R&D, OPA and NIT were finally able to announce the first three solid applications that were tested in the field of their jointly developed “GMTA Technology”, each of which ended up starting a whole industry in many markets for years to come, and similar technology is still used today.
Briefly, the “GMTA System” is an embeddable machine having the full power and flexibility of a complete computer system built into one small self-contained unit, which can be fully programmed remotely from a central office or by just changing a solid-state cartridge containing all the hardware operating system and related application software.
In the following three applications below, the basic “GMTA System” is a totally self-contained unit with no mechanical moving parts, molded into the case of the CRT monitors, flat-panel screens, or projection display units. It can be left on and running 24 hours a day, seven days a week, year after year with no wear or tear.
ADVERTISING
Imagine replacing any poster-size sign showing just one ad for a product, movie, store, etc. with a color flat-panel “Plasma Screen”. This screen can be any size or shape coupled together with our “GMTA System” displaying a series of unique ads from many different advertisers consisting of a mixture high-res color photographs, text in any font & color, and other graphics or company logos.
The “GMTA System” gives the advertisers many new abilities over the conventional printed posters currently being used. Below are short descriptions of some of many new advantages which advertisers have because of the unique abilities in the “GMTA System” to control and change the displayed ads.
- Produces eye-catching special effects when changing the color photographs, and can apply various effects to the displayed text and graphics.
- When installed in a moving vehicle like subways and buses the ads can be geared to local stores coming up at the next few stops along the vehicle’s route. This causes many advertisers to places ads in these vehicles who would normally not advertise there.
- When attached to a telephone line or RF receiver the advertisers can change their ads at will, allowing them to announce specials and late-breaking news.
- Broadcasting of local news, events, weather and related public service messages regarding things like subway delays and bus schedules can be done easily from the central control office or even from the driver’s compartment on subways.
- With our built-in clock, the “GMTA System” can gear the advertisers’ ads to certain times of day, based on market research showing when a particular target group may be more likely to be using a system like subways and buses.

WAYFINDER
A kiosk in the shape of a triangular stand-up solid pillar containing three large 20″ color screens either being CRT monitors or flat-panel “Plasma Screens” coupled together to the “GMTA System” containing the “Wayfinding” information and controlling the three color screens and the three user interfaces.
The “Wayfinder” kiosk is designed to display to the user a series of high-res color photographs showing actual buildings, landmarks, hallways, and turns the person would see and take on their journey to the selected destination.
Destinations can be selected by the person using the “Wayfinder” kiosk in various ways, either by touching the location on a displayed overview map of the local surrounding area, or by selecting a destination from a menu of locations sorted by different categories and alphabetically by name, or by inputting various search criteria if the person is unsure of the place they are looking for.
Besides displaying the visually impacting actual route to their destination from the “Wayfinder” kiosk which the person is using, the “GMTA System” can have options to display an overview map of the local surrounding area with the selected route highlighted, and even the ability to printout a map showing the selected route and requested related information.
Typical “Wayfinder” kiosk installations are paid for by the merchants who are benefited, by organizations who wish to promote tourism, and by institutions who wish to help direct traffic.

INFORMATION RETRIEVAL
A small 4″x6″ color flat-panel “Plasma Screen”, combined with our compact “GMTA System”, and attached to a standard personal or public pay telephone, with the information being displayed on the “Plasma Screen” controlled via a series of “Touch-Tone” selections from the user.
Information consists of a mixture of high-res color photographs, text, and graphics all stored within the “GMTA System”, allowing for instant retrieval anytime the users wish, at just a quick push of a button, even while talking on the telephone. Quick updates to the stored information in the “GMTA System” can be done via the telephone line whenever the phone system is not in use, and terminates if the user’s phone system is required, thus keeping the stored information current and accurate.
The system works much like a virtual “Yellow Pages”, but better with the information always being current, and the system can inform the users of local news, events, weather, and advertisers’ specials in their area.
Ads would be much like the printed “Yellow Pages” in their categories and content, but many advertisers will like the ability to include color photographs of their products and locations, plus the ability to update their ads as required to inform their clients of specials and new products, etc.
In the context of a Public Pay Telephone, the “GMTA System” will be programmed with the phone’s location and will be able to target the user selections if so requested to the surrounding area, and guide the user to the selected location via highlighted maps and/or color photographs of the area, much like a “Wayfinder”.
